New Student Orientation

If you are new to Mark Twain, please plan to attend the New Student Orientation on Wednesday September 1st. Those students enrolled in the Dual Language Program will meet at 5:00 pm; those students enrolled in the regular program will meet at 5:30 pm. Welcome!
2010-2011 School Supplies List

Take advantage of all the great summer sales on school supplies and be ready for success on the first day of school! Required items are: One 2-3" view binder, 10 dividers, college-ruled filler paper, binder pencil pouch, two #2 pencils, two blue or black ink pens, highlighters, USB flash drive. Optional items are: calculator, binder 3-hole punch, colored pencils, glue stick, hand-held sharpener, water-based markers, graph paper, ruler, reinforcements. Summer Bridge Transition Program

We are happy to announce that a Summer Bridge Transition Program will be held from August 2nd to 20th for incoming 6th grade students, as well as our students moving into the 7th and 8th grade. Please register now in the attendance office for morning academic classes and afternoon enrichment classes.

Winter Wheat
Two Loaves of Mark Twain Organic Whole Wheat Bread!!! The students from Mr. Koonce's seventh Grade math class ground the wheat berries from their harvest into flour. This yielded two loaves of bread. Please click on Winter Wheat for pictures
2010-2011 Free Tutoring

Through the Supplemental Education Services (SES), all of our students qualify for free tutoring next year but your application must be sent in this month! Please join Ms. Vandergriff for workshops on successfully completing and submitting your SES application on Wednesday June 9th at 8 am, Thursday June 10th at 8 am and 2:30 pm, Friday June 11th at 8 am, Tuesday June 15th at 8 am, and Wednesday June 16th at 8 am and 2:30 pm. Application booklets were sent via US Mail on June 1st. Please bring it with you to the workshops; extras are available if you did not receive one.
AVID Recruitment

We are recruiting 6th Grade students for next year's AVID class. Do you have the individual determination required to go to college and would appreciate additional support from an AVID elective class? Applications are available on Friday June 11th, due on Monday June 14th, and interviews will be held all day on Wednesday June 16th. If you have a GPA of 2.0 and above or are the first in your family to go to college, this is definitely a class for you!
8th Grade Culmination

The list is out! Students who are eligible to participate in 8th Grade Culmination will attend rehearsals on Wednesday June 16th and Thursday June 17th from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. The Grad Fest will take place on Wednesday June 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the quad area, the Grad Dance on Thursday June 17th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in the cafeteria, and the Culmination Ceremony on Friday June 18th at 9:00 am in the auditorium. Following Thursday's rehearsal, students will receive 3 tickets each for their family members to attend the Culmination Ceremony. Please note: due to fire and safety regulations, only those with tickets will be allowed into the auditorium on Friday.
"Blankets of Love"

Ms. Vizas' students will host an Animal Alliance assembly on Friday June 11th, and in conjunction with their active support of Los Angeles adopting no kill shelters for animals, they will collect old or new towels and blankets so that shelter dogs and cats have a little comfort while they are waiting for a home. Collection boxes are located in the library and Rm 119.
Cultural Connections

Join us in the library Monday June 7th through Saturday June 12th for a delightful realia-based connection to instructional standards. We thank Valerie Lezin, who has been graciously sharing both her time and collection over the years!
